The Year 5/6 Bike Club have braved the elements over the past four weeks to complete their different rides around the Cramlington Cycle tracks. Their last ride was to Azure Garden Centre where they enjoyed hot chocolate and fed the reindeer. All the children have done amazingly well and it was impressive seeing them all riding confidently in the dark with their lights on. They are now looking forward to the next sessions in the Summer.
CRAMLINGTON AND SEATON VALLEY SPORTS AWARDS
The Cramlington and Seaton Valley sports award ceremony took place on Wednesday 21st November and was a fantastic celebration of the partnership's sporting year. It was amazing hearing about all the different sports, events and achievements that the schools within the partnership have been doing.
Eastlea were delighted to be presented with an unbelievable 3 awards.
The School Games Platinum Award for 2017-18 which came as a result of securing GOLD for 5 years in a row! We are one of 7 schools in Northumberland to secure this award and the only school within Cramlington. This is a fantastic achievement.
There were also 6 special awards awarded - we won TWO!
Developing Leadership and Volunteering, this special award recognised the work done within school to involve pupils in leading sports and activities, such as our Brainwaves team, playground leaders, sports leaders, digital leaders, nursery assistants and librarians
Promoting and Demonstrating the school games values, this is the most prestigious award and one that we have retained for the second year running! The School Games Values focus on personal excellence through PE and Sport. The 6 values are Passion, Self-Belief, Respect, Honesty, Determination and Teamwork. This award goes to the school whose pupils and staff embrace these values not only in PE, school sport and competition, but in all aspects of school life. What an achievement and a privilege for us to win this.
Our Early Years have been learning to ride a bike. Cycle Experience have been running sessions all week using the balance bikes. The children have loved the sessions and will soon be riding their own bikes.
Our Year 5/6 basketball teams played really well in the Thunder in the Valley Tournament held at Sports Central, the Newcastle Eagles home court. They not only scored many baskets and won their last games but they also showed great team spirit throughout the tournament. We were really impressed with their teamwork and enthusiasm. It was also great to see so many parents supporting the teams. We were then joined by more staff, parents and children to watch the Newcastle Eagles play an exciting, fast-paced game against the Wolverhampton Wolves. They didn't let us down and won 97-89. A great way to end the evening.
Year 3 attended the Cramlington and Seaton Valley Sports Partnership Hula Hooping Festival held at the Lakeside Centre in Killingworth. This was a fun festival event, comprising of all pupils taking part in different hula hoop activities led by coaches from KidzRFit. It was fantastic to see pupils try some new fun activities designed to get them active and develop their hula hoop skills as well as show off just how great they are at hooping. Well done Year 3.
Our Year 4 Football team played really well. They won a couple, drew a couple and lost one! There was a fantastic team spirit from every player and Mrs Barratt was really proud of their determination to play well and enjoy themselves.
Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Girls Football Team who won the Cramlington and Seaton Valley Girls football Shield. All 10 girls played really well and we won all four games without one goal being scored against us. A fantastic team who showed superb team spirit and all thoroughly deserved their medals.
Our Hoopstarz Day was a huge success. The whole school from Nursery through to Year 6 have enjoyed fun but very active sessions practising their hooping skills and learning new ones. The Hoopstarz coach was amazed at the level of skill shown in every session.
22 children from Year 5 and 6 took part in their Bikeability training this week. The instructors from Cycle Experience were very complimentary about their behaviour and positive attitude. All of the children achieved their level 1 and the majority went on to achieve their level 2. We now hope to see them cycling to school and joining the Cycle Club, which will start after half term.
Our Year 6 hockey teams were in action at the Sporting Club. After enjoying some hockey coaching within their lessons they were keen to put them into action. Both teams played well, winning some of their games and displaying some great skill. They all displayed the Sporting Values and enjoyed the tournament.
